We’re pleased to announce that we have reached agreement with Ebook Library (EBL) to distribute our e-books to libraries. EBL provides a variety of services to academic and research libraries. As the home page of its website explains, it “provides a cross-platform, multiple-devices, online-or-offline e-book system for academic and research libraries”.
EBL has helped to establish the patron-driven acquisition model for academic libraries. This allows libraries to offer a wide range of e-books to its users free of charge. Users are able to preview books. Only after a threshold level of interest from users in an e-book has been reached does the library pay to acquire it.
We see this as a ‘win-win-win’ arrangement: a library pays for a book only once it there is evidence of demand from its users; users have access to a large range of texts; and publishers are rewarded for publishing books that readers want to read.
