Creative writing – online resources #3: Catching days

Anthony Haynes writes: Catching days is a blog run by Cynthia Newberry Martin.

It is inspired by the following quotation from The Writing Life by Annie Dillard:

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.  What we do with this hour, and that one, is what we are doing.  A schedule defends from chaos and whim.  It is a net for catching days.  It is a scaffolding on which a worker can stand and labor with both hands at sections of time”.

The core of the blog is a series of posts (made on the first day of each month) giving authors reflections on how they spend their days. At the end of each reflection come the writer of the month’s answers to the following questions:

  1. What is the best book you’ve read in the last few months and how did you choose it?
  2. Would you give us one little piece of writing advice?
  3. What is your strangest reading or writing habit?
There is some other literary content on the site as well. There’s a helpful guide to the site called ‘Blog bones’.
