Anthony Haynes writes: During a visit to Northumbria University last term I was struck by the confidence and optimism of the creative writing department. Below is an invited item from Dr Tony Williams.
Tony Williams writes: This year (2011-12) at Northumbria University we’re launching a new MRes in Creative Writing. It’s intended for writers who have good technical skills but may not be ready for a PhD. Its purpose is to help the student complete a major creative project and develop the skills which are involved in creative practice as academic research. There are a small number of fee-waiver studentships – the deadline for applications is 19 August. Our website provides more details on the course and the studentships.
Creative Writing at Northumbria is expanding rapidly, with five specialist staff and a sixth starting next year, and vibrant PhD and Masters programmes. I’ve been here since January and can say it’s a welcoming and exciting place. Please pass on details of this opportunity to writers you think may be interested!
